How to balance your heart chakra this Valentine's Day

Whether you are looking for love, or need to up your self care, a balanced heart chakra is what you need this February.

As you may know, I became interested in crystals when training as a reiki master.

The basics of reiki, is to balance the chakras, which are wheels of energy positioned along the body, when they are all in balance the body, mind and spirit can heal itself. If a chakra becomes out of balance, there can be physical or emotional symptoms.

My jumper in the picture is helpfully showing where your heart chakra is located.

Before I share with you how you can balance your heart chakra, I should share how you can tell if your heart chakra needs balancing.

If you're reading this, you probably instinctively know your heart chakra could do with some love. But in case you are in doubt, here's some of the issues associated with the heart chakra.

Signs of blocked or imbalanced heart chakra

Physical issues - heart problems, breathing issues, poor circulation, low or high blood pressure

Emotional issues - jealousy, antisocial, withdrawn, intolerant, lonely, difficulty trusting others

So, how do you know when your heart chakra is balanced?

You will be able to feel love and give it to others, have compassion, and feel like you belong.

How to balance your heart chakra

The good news is, you don't need to be a reiki master to balance your heart chakra. Here are just a few simple ways, you can do it.

1. Healing sounds. Search for Hz heart chakra balance on youtube or spotify, and you will find play lists of sounds which will balance your heart chakra. I listen to these as I fall asleep, and alternate with sounds for the other chakras as well.

2. Colour. The heart chakra is associated with the colour green. Wearing green, or going out in nature where there are green trees and grassy fields, can balance your heart chakra.

3. Yoga. When your heart chakra is blocked, your posture will be protective, with round shoulders. Any heart opening postures will balance the heart chakra.

4. And of course, crystals! As a general rule, crystals which are green or pink balance the heart chakra. My go to crystal for the heart chakra is rose quartz (heart stone in the middle of the picture). I love the gentle nurturing energy of rose quartz. It promotes compassion and love, and can ease all the physical issues associated with the heart chakra. If you like pink crystals, another that balances the heart chakra is rhodonite (pictured top left). If green crystals are more your thing you could try green aventurine (pictured top right), unakite (pictured as a pendant), or green jasper (dark green heart pictured) to name a few.

Which way will you choose to show your heart chakra some love this Valentine's day?

After a chest cold last month, I have been working lots on balancing my heart chakra, but I think I'll still be wearing some heart chakra crystals this week. I'll share on social media which ones I pick.

I'd love to hear if you try any of the above, and how you get on.
